CONTEST ALERT!!! On May 1, we kicked off our #WhyHatteras Contest! Everyday for the next three weeks, we are going to share another one of our top reasons to choose Hatteras Island as your number one vacation destination and we want YOU to share your reasons with us as well! Let us know, #WhyHatteras?

This contest will take place on Facebook and Instagram (Follow us: MidgettRealtyNC), so share your photo(s) with us on either platform and REMEMBER to use the hashtag, #WhyHatteras when posting so we don’t miss it.

  So Much History

  Reason #1: So.Much.History. From the Lost Colony to the Graveyard of the Atlantic, there is an abundance of history on this little sandbar in NC. Did you know Midgett Realty was the first to bring hospitality to Hatteras Island?

  Bomb Coffee

  Reason #2: Bomb coffee. Dancing Turtle Coffee Show has been fulfilling our much needed java fix for years. Bringing both culinary sips and some very real atmosphere to the table, this little coffee house in Hatteras Village is where it’s at! Too hot for a cup of joe? Don’t sweat it! They have iced and frozen coffees as well!

  In The Eye Surfboards

  Reason #3: In The Eye Surfboards: For over 30 years, Scott Busbey, founder of In The Eye surfboards, has hand-shaped the east coast surfing experience with his custom boards. A pioneer in the industry, he and wife, Carol Busbey, have been running Natural Art Surf Shop since they opened their doors in bustling downtown Buxton in 1977.   Sunrises

  Reason #4:Sunrises: There is no better way to start your day than with an island sunrise. Optimal beachcombing time plus a view you can’t beat? Yeh, we’ll get up early for that! #whyhatteras

  She rises in the east and sets in the west. She causes global Insta-envy. Hatteras Island sunsets are one reason you won’t regret booking your beach vacation on Hatteras Island!

  Cape Hatteras Lighthouse

  Reason #6: What’s 208 feet tall and black and white all over? The Cape Hatteras Lighthouse! Climb the 257 steps (yeh, that’s the equivalent of a 12-story building) and see the island from a totally different perspective. Even cooler? You can climb during the full moon!

  That Fish Life

  Reason #9: You might not find Blackbeard’s treasure (not that you won’t), but you could very well stumble upon a bounty of sand dollars! It’s a…different kind of rich, but it’s wealth all the same. Grab a friend, partner, parent or sibling and comb the beaches for the riches you can’t put a number on—scotch bonnets, conch, starfish and more!

  Graveyard of the Atlantic

  Reason #10: Visit the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum in Hatteras Village and inquire about the visible remains of the ships that have found their demise on the unpredictable shoals off of Hatteras Island. After visiting a few on land, hire one of the island’s dive boats to see a few from under the sea!

  Reason #17: One thing that makes Hatteras Island so unique is that it houses one of the most well-known National Wildlife Refuges in the United States.
