How to get to Cape Hatteras, Outer Banks, North Carolina

Directions From the North
Follow I-95 South to Richmond, VA. Take I-64 East toward Norfolk/Virginia Beach, VA. Take 64 or 664 to Chesapeake, VA. Go south on 168, Chesapeake Expressway*. Once in North Carolina, 168 turns into US-158 East. Follow this road to the Outer Banks. Take NC 12 to Cape Hatteras.
*Chesapeake Expressway is a toll-road which costs $2.00 each way. To bypass tolls, take 168 South Business in Virginia.
You can also take 664 South from I-64 East. Take I-64 East to Hampton, VA, and pick up I-664 South, through Monitor Merimac Tunnel. Take exit 15B to get back on I-64 East. Then take exit 291B for Hwy. 168 South. Continue on 168 South, which turns into US-158. Follow this road to the Outer Banks. Take NC 12 to Cape Hatteras.
Directions From the West
Via I-95 into North Carolina. Take US-64 East toward Rocky Mount. Follow US-64 East through Williamston and Plymouth, NC. From Plymouth, NC keep going east to Roanoke Island and the Outer Banks. Take NC 12 to Cape Hatteras.
Directions From the South
Coming from South Carolina take I-95 to Wilson, NC. From Washington, take State Rte. 30 to Plymouth, NC and follow the directions above via US-64 East to the Outer Banks. Take NC 12 to Cape Hatteras.
For a scenic drive, take US-17 from South Carolina north to Wilmington, North Carolina. Drive north until you reach Folkstone, NC. From Folkstone, take State Rte. 172 north to Hubert, NC. From Hubert, take State Rte. 24 east until it runs into US-70 (before Morehead City, North Carolina). Follow US-70 North from Morehead City to State Rte. 12 and the Cedar Island Ferry. Take the toll ferry to Ocracoke Island. Then take State Rte. 12 north to the Hatteras Island Ferry.

As you use the APPROXIMATE mileage and the maps provided to plan your trip, please keep in mind that your travel time is largely dependent on traffic. The population of the Outer Banks more than triples every Saturday and Sunday.
We understand that you may want to arrive early on your check-in day to avoid traffic. However, we cannot let you check into the house early if it has not been fully cleaned AND inspected. We appreciate your cooperation and wish you a pleasant and safe trip.
