Moving Forward After Mandatory Evacuation

Dear Midgett Realty Guest,

In the wake of the island-wide mandatory evacuation order for Hatteras Island, we are aware that all of our incoming guests are looking for answers as to what’s next. Depending on whether or not you purchased travel insurance, you will fall into one of the three categories below, for which we have included instructions on how to proceed.

Please be mindful that every reservation has been touched by this unfolding event, and we are trying to assist each of you, our valued guests, as quickly and efficiently as possible. As we are still in the midst of this event and there is no clear timeline, this could take weeks, and we ask for your patience. If you are trying to contact our offices, please understand that we are inundated with an excessive call volume and our staff is busy taking calls, with limited access to phones at this time. Facebook and other social media channels are not as closely monitored for rapid response time as we have dedicated all of our resources to our phone lines. Both our Rodanthe and Avon offices are experiencing intermittent power, with lines frequently being forwarded to our Hatteras location and we are handling the call and email volume as best we can.

1.    YOU PURCHASED TRAVEL INSURANCE:

For our guests that have purchased travel insurance, your coverage is based on the residing state of the leaseholder per your lease agreement. For example, if Joe Smith signed the lease agreement and he lives in Virginia, your protection is covered by Modern Voyage. Please contact the appropriate agency below to begin your claim.

2.    YOU PURCHASED TRAVEL INSURANCE, BUT YOUR CARRIER IS CLAIMING THIS IS NOT A COVERED EVENT:

Particularly with guests covered by Berkshire Hathaway, there is a gray area whereas this was not a “natural disaster” but a “manmade disaster”. If you are running into an issue where you purchased the insurance, but your claim is being denied, please send us a letter of request including your reservation number and the specifics of your claim. Without your reservation number, your claim will not be able to be processed.

3.    YOU DID NOT PURCHASE TRAVEL INSURANCE:

While you opted not to protect your vacation, we are willing to approach each claim on a case by case basis as this is an unprecedented event. Please send us a letter of request so that we can review the details of your individual claim. Please include your reservation number or your claim will not be able to be processed.
