Enhanced Cleaning Protocols in Response to COVID-19


When you rent your Hatteras Island vacation home with Midgett Realty, you can book with the confidence that your home has been properly cleaned and sanitized prior to your arrival. Cleaning a vacation rental home is no small task, but our leading team of cleaning professionals has been fully trained on how to utilize the appropriate supplies during this time of uncertainty. We want to remain transparent regarding our process so that you and your family can rest assured that Midgett Realty has taken every step to ensure your property has undergone the rigorous process of sanitizing your vacation rental.

Cleaning & Disinfecting:
Cleaning is defined by the CDC as “the removal of germs, dirt, and impurities from surfaces. It does not kill germs, but by removing them, it lowers their numbers and the risk of spreading infection.”

Disinfection is a separate step that should come after. If surfaces are dirty, they should be cleaned prior to disinfection.

Our dedicated team of cleaning professionals practice a two-step process of first cleaning based on recommendations by the CDC, and then disinfecting high-traffic and high-touch surfaces using Spartan Chemical TB-Cide Quat ( EPA Reg. No. 1839-83-5741), a product that meets the EPA’s criteria for use against SARS-CoV-2, the cause of COVID-19. High touch surfaces include, but are not limited to:

• All handles/knobs (entry doors, closet doors, kitchen cabinets/drawers, dressers, nightstands, vanity surfaces, faucets, and all appliances)
• Light switches
• Remote controls
• Telephones
• Countertops
• Backs of hard surface chairs and armrests
• Interior handrails
• Commode flush levers and seats
• Pool table accessories (cue sticks, balls, racks)
• Gaming remotes/paddles.
• Elevator buttons
• Curtain and blind wands

Our team of cleaning professionals, in addition to all other Midgett Realty staff members, will also be required to wear a mask and gloves prior to entering any vacation rental property.

All sheets and towels are professionally laundered by our linen service provider prior to your arrival. All homes that provide “Gold” or “Silver” linen service will have their beds freshly made prior to your arrival unless otherwise requested by the guest in advance. Top bunk beds, sleeper sofas, futons, day beds and trundles will not be made in advance of your stay. Those beds, as well as all rented linens for homes that do not provide linen service, will have their linens sealed in plastic wrap by our provider.

Our team of Maintenance professionals, in addition to all Midgett Realty staff members, will be required to wear a mask and gloves prior to entering any vacation rental property. We will continue to respond to all maintenance requests in a prioritized manner. We ask that our staff be given the courteous safe distancing opportunity during their service call for safety reasons. Each outside vendor has their own policy restrictions which may include restricted services performed for their staff's protection.

Check-in & Check-Out:
Because of the extra steps being taken between guest departure and arrival in an effort to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, we will not be able to grant late check-out or early check-in requests. Additionally, when planning your arrival, please also be prepared for many check-ins to take place closer to the end of the check-in window as laid out in your lease agreement. If you are planning on an early departure prior to our 10am check-out time, we are asking for a 24-hour advanced notice so that we can schedule your departure clean for as early as possible. As nearly all of our properties utilize keyless entry, you can bypass our office and go immediately to your vacation rental once you have been alerted that the property is ready for check-in. As we continue to adhere to social distancing guidelines as laid out by government and health officials, we ask that you do not go to the property prior to notification that it is ready for check-in.

Our Team:
It is our policy that no employee should report to work if they are presenting symptoms identified with COVID-19. Additionally, we have issued hand-sanitizer to each of our offices, as well as the check-in counter, and encourage all employees to follow recommended hand-washing procedures as laid out by our health officials and leaders. Social distancing partitions have been added between stations of our field staff where necessary, and markers have been added to guest entry points where applicable. Masks are required for entry into all office buildings, and all Midgett Realty employees are required to wear a mask and gloves prior to entering any vacation rental property.
