Once known as “Clark”, Salvo is the most southern of the “Tri-Villages” on Hatteras Island, a term coined locally referring to a group of adjoining villages, which consists of Rodanthe, Waves and Salvo. Located at the southern tip of Salvo is a 13-mile stretch of untouched National Park land, preceded by a wonderful day use area complete with picnic tables, perfect for an al fresco lunch date with the whole family.
The shores of Hatteras Island are famously encompassed by the Graveyard of The Atlantic, known by watermen for her moody shoals and uncanny ability to claim vessels during the harsh storms that are typical off of North Carolina’s coast. One such vessel, known by ol’ timers as the “Old Richmond” and by others as the “Pocahontas”, is quietly nestled off of the beach in Salvo creating a fun spot for free divers and the adventurous snorkeler alike.
Quiet and peaceful, Salvo is a perfect relaxation station for people of all interests. A prime spot for surfing, fishing and several other watersports, you’re sure to find some fun for everyone to enjoy!
