2026 HICF Donna Peele Memorial 5K

The Hatteras Island Cancer Foundation’s annual 5K returns for its 23rd year on Saturday, October 10, at 9:00 a.m. in Avon. Registration is now open for runners, walkers, and cyclists who want to take part in this popular community event while supporting a meaningful local cause.

Once again, this year’s race will be held in memory of Donna Peele, a beloved founding member of the Hatteras Island Cancer Foundation (HICF) who lost her battle with breast cancer in October 2023. Participants are encouraged to wear pink in Donna’s honor and in recognition of October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The 5K follows a scenic route through the quiet soundside neighborhood of Kinnakeet Shores in Avon, with participants welcome to run, walk, or bike the course. Registration is $25 in advance or $30 on race day and includes an official HICF 5K T-shirt and awards. This year’s registration fee has been reduced from previous years in hopes of encouraging even more members of the community to participate. Participants can register here.
