Abenaki Story Telling & Music

Home Hatteras Events Abenaki Story Telling & Music

Celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Frisco Native American Museum by welcoming back Abenaki Elder Francine Jones for a memorable afternoon of traditional storytelling, music, and hands-on learning. Returning for a second year, Francine is a gifted storyteller and musician whose presentations delight visitors of all ages.

Discover the rich traditions of the Abenaki people through captivating teaching stories and songs passed down through generations. Did you know there’s a traditional song said to help ward off mosquitoes? You’ll have the chance to learn it and sing along! Ever wondered why dogs are known as “man’s best friend”? Francine will share the fascinating story behind their enduring bond.

Young visitors are invited to take part in a traditional Feather Dance, making this an especially memorable experience for children and families.

Throughout the program, Francine will also have a display of traditional Abenaki items. Adults are encouraged to ask questions and learn about their history and purpose, while children can enjoy exploring the collection and guessing how different objects, furs, and tools were used in everyday life.

The event is free with museum admission, and everyone is welcome to attend.

Francine Jones is a dedicated advocate for preserving and protecting the Abenaki language and culture. She is a member of the Vermont Abenaki Artists Association and serves on the Board of the Abenaki Arts & Education Center.
