The World’s Largest Surf Fishing Tournament

Since 1958, the Cape Hatteras Anglers Club Invitational Surf Fishing Tournament has been a proud November tradition on Hatteras Island. Each year, 120 six-member teams are invited to compete, casting their lines in designated beach zones during morning and afternoon sessions on both Thursday and Friday. On Saturday, the excitement continues with the Bob Bernard Open Individual Tournament, open to any angler who registers in advance.

More than just a competition, this tournament is an island-wide celebration. Local businesses rally behind the event by advertising in the souvenir book, which is shared throughout the community. Families, anglers, and judges alike enjoy a week filled with activities beyond the beach, from browsing the Sponsors’ Tackle Show—where top equipment companies showcase the latest gear alongside complimentary refreshments—to gathering for the much-anticipated “Brag and Award Night” on Friday at the clubhouse.
