The Rodanthe-Waves-Salvo Civic Association is set to hold its fourth annual Earth Day Celebration on Saturday, April 25, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Rodanthe-Waves-Salvo Community Building on NC Highway 12. The free event will take place rain or shine.
A highlight of the day is the community plant swap, where attendees can exchange plants, trees, vegetables, and seeds or take home something new. Thanks to Wetland Plants Inc. of Edenton and sponsorship from Midgett Realty, free native plants will be available, including cardinal flowers, black-eyed Susans, and several mallow and hibiscus varieties. Visitors can also enjoy hands-on planting activities, craft stations for kids, and live music by local performer Martin Somers throughout the morning.
New this year, the Hatteras branch of the Dare County Library will host a pop-up library with books and resources for all ages.
A variety of local organizations will be participating with educational displays and demonstrations, including:
- Cape Hatteras Electric Cooperative
- Surfrider Foundation
- Dare County Master Gardeners
- North Carolina Coastal Federation
- Frisco Native American Museum
- Peace Garden Project / Outer Banks Environmental Film Festival
- Local beekeepers and birdwatchers
Raffle proceeds will benefit the civic association’s ongoing programs and community events. In addition to themed gift baskets, prizes will include plants such as live oak and fig trees.
