Celebrating its 20th anniversary, the annual Day at the Docks Festival is returning once again this fall and will be held on Friday and Saturday, September 13-14.

Initially launched as a one-day event in 2004, Day at the Docks (DATD) was created as a community-wide effort to recover after 2003’s Hurricane Isabel, which cut a new inlet south of the village, effectively cutting off Hatteras from the rest of the world for weeks. Always tied to honoring our watermen, it is now an annual celebration of the strength of the community, its heritage, and the living traditions of those within the local commercial and charter fishing industries.

Friday launches the two-day celebration with five-course “Seafood Under the Stars” dinner featuring local chef, Tyler Naughton. Formally of Konbi, Los Angeles, he is now the current owner of Toucana Grill, Hatteras.

Saturday boasts a wide array of events including the Fishy 5K, Hatteras Island Cancer Foundation’s Chowder Cook-Off, the Seafood Throwdown, the Concrete Marlin Competition, and wraps up with the Blessing of the Fleet. Find a variety of vendors and more when check out this family-friendly festival located all along the docks of Hatteras Village! For more details, follow the event’s Facebook page.
