There’s something exceptionally exciting about taking in scenic terrain on horseback and this afternoon, that’s exactly what you’ll get to do when you partner with the team at Equine Adventures. This company pairs riding enthusiasts with experienced guides as you take to the trails and explore the shorelines of Hatteras Island in a brand-new way. While you’re sure to see some iconic landmarks like the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse along the way, the mode of transportation is entirely one-of-a-kind!

Later this afternoon and into the evening, enjoy more North Carolina outdoor activities with a custom angling experience out on the water with the team over at Tightline Fishing Charters. Located at Teach’s Lair 58646 NC-12 as of 2023, this recreational outfitter specializes in tailored outings that are suitable for all ages and angling skill levels. If you head out later in the day, you might even catch a great sunset on your way in.

The second day of your off-the-beaten-path journey to Hatteras Island starts with some artistic inspiration earned with a stop at the Pea Island Art Gallery. Here, you can browse works by over 100 local and regional artists on display. Your off-the-beaten-path journey to Hatteras Island ends at the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum which is free to visit and is found near the ferry docks to Ocracoke Island. This museum tells the story of more than 600 shipwrecks that sit below the water off the coast of Hatteras Island. Dangerous Diamond Shoals have led to many ship’s demise and the museum covers some of the most infamous wrecks while displaying Coast Guard and wreck artifacts as well. While the stop is popular, what you learn is mysterious and new with every visit which is what makes this a one-of-a-kind addition to your off-the-beaten-path itinerary.
