When coming to Hatteras Island for that perfect beach vacation, there is a plethora of activities to take part in, both when you get here and on the way.

On a Tuesday in March a small collection of individuals came from near and far and gathered at the southern foot of the Herbert C. Bonner Bridge. Among this group were lawmakers, activists and the Queen herself. March 8th, 2016 was the official groundbreaking ceremony to replace the decades-old bridge.

A HUGE thank you to the Cape Hatteras Secondary School for hosting us at their Career Fair.  The event was put together so nicely, and it was great to meet and be able to talk with the students about thir future!  We want to thank the people who worked hard to put this event together for both the employers and students.

Dare County Emergency Management

 UPDATE 1:00 p.m. Thursday, November 1, 2012
Beginning Friday, November 2 at 6:00 a.m. all reentry restrictions for Hatteras Island will be lifted and ferry service will be available for everyone, including visitors.  The only access to Hatteras Island is by ferry until further notice. The only priority given for emergency ferry service is for essential commodities and materials, as determined by Dare County Emergency Management and the Ferry Division.


If you are here, on Hatteras Island, please be aware that if you plan on using the Hatteras-Ocracoke ferry you could encounter delays, load weight restrictions and possible suspensions due to extreme shoaling of the Hatteras Inlet channel.  Please click for more information to see the Press Release given by the NCDOT for further information.  Thank you and travel safe!
