Home Blog Girls Trip to Hatteras Island

08/08/2017

Obviously vacations with the extended family and excursions with the boys are great, but sometimes you just need to get away with your girls. And THAT can be as calm or as crazy as you want, no matter where you go. While Hatteras Island certainly has its nightlife and plenty of shenanigans to get into, it also has a tranquil retreat quality that is unique to this 70-mile stretch of seashore that we here at Midgett Realty call home. That’s why we have put together a dreamy trip for the ladies that we too are dying to try (calculating potential staycation days as I type), so gather your girls and give it a whirl!

BE WELL

Your health is number one and what better way to get some exercise and mental R&R than by exploring this beauty bomb of an island? Beach runs, hikes through the maritime forest and sunset paddleboard tours are just a few examples of ways to enrich your life through health and fitness while on Hatteras Island, but if you’re looking for something more regimented we’ve found some other fun options as well.

Yoga:  Hatteras Yoga came onto the scene with stellar reviews as husband and wife duo, Cena and Wayland Jennette, offer everything from regularly scheduled classes for the adults and kiddos to private sessions (yep, they’ll come to your Midgett Realty vacation home) and beach yoga.

Strength & Fitness:  The Fort Strength and Fitness opened in 2016, when Kristian Head, fitness queen and #ladyboss, added another chapter to her awesome story of determination and perseverance. For hours of operation, check here.

GET PAMPERED

Beyond the beautifying benefits of that glorious salt air and Vitamin D, you can easily take it a step further and get your spa on here at the beach. From your highlights all the way down to your toenails, get pampered! With an obvious overlap in services, we’re certain that whether you do a spa/salon hop or just go with one location, you won’t be sorry!

Spa Koru:  In addition to their fabulous gym, they also offer a variety of massage, facial, hair and nail services. Definitely a one-stop shop for all things health and beauty!

In Touch Massage and Wellness Center:  If you just want to focus on massage treatments or skincare, this place is the golden ticket. Raindrop therapy? Hot stone massage? Yep, they’ve got alllll of that goodness! Check out their menu of services here.

Creative Ballance, Inc.:  This is not your normal manicure/pedicure experience. These ladies are nail technicians (read:  bomb nail artists) and combined with two professional hair dressers, this is a house FULL of lady bosses. That’s right, you can get your nails did and then hop a chair over for a cut, color and wax!

TREAT YO’SELF

This can get out of control quickly. And it may be one of those situations where you have to leave some bags in your trunk and sneak them into the house in shifts in the dead of night, but we aren’t here to judge. This trip is about you and your ladies, and who better to shop with than your soul sisters? You’ll find tons of places to catch up on some retail therapy, but here are a few to get you started:

Jewelry:  Family Jewels has a fun twist on the Hatteras Island jewelry market. A remarkable lampwork artisan, founder and owner, Wendy Stowe Sisler, has a creative mix of her own work in addition to fun pieces by other renowned artists.

Clothes:  Izabelle’s Closet has long been a favorite of the island ladies and their friends. Making a short move approximately 20 yards north on the ocean side of Highway 12 last Fall, don’t miss out on these classic threads that you won’t find anywhere else!

House:  Coastal Cottage Outfitters has really hit the nail on the head with their curated mix of goodies for the home. From throw pillows to kitchen wares, you’ll be hard pressed to leave without a fun little treasure to remember your trip by.

Art:  Starting with Sandy Bay Gallery in Frisco, be sure to make all of the stops on Gallery Row! And if you’re in Avon, stop by Kinnakeet Clay Studio and Showroom for a unique shopping experience that is frequently completed with a fun chat with featured artist and shop owner, Antoinette Gaskins Mattingly.

Souvenirs:  Hatteras Landing is a souvenir hot spot. You will find every OBX tee ever made, complete with matching Tervis tumblers, beach towels and stickers! You’ll also find fun toys for the kids and consolation gifts for the pouting boyfriends/husbands who have heard nothing but what a great week you’ve had without them.

Vino:  This might be something you might want to take care of on your way to check-in, but Island Spice and Wine in Avon and Lee Robinson’s General Store in Hatteras Village have the hook-up on good wines. You’ll be able to grab a few snacks as well, but liquid necessities are definitely bountiful.
