Home Blog Top 3 Things to Try on Hatteras Island This Fall

10/26/2021

Previously, Hatteras Island has been enjoyed by its guests as a seasonal vacation destination, mainly in the summer. As people have started to experience and fall in love with our shoulder seasons, local businesses have been finding ways to better cater to our fall guests as well. With that, we have curated a list of the “top three must-try’s” for the remaining fall season on Hatteras Island.

1. Brunch at Breakwater

As the standard season on Hatteras Island starts to dwindle, dining locations this time of year are often limited as folks begin to cut back their hours in preparation for the lesser crowds. Fear not, because the folks at Breakwater are here to save the day! Famous for their first-class dining and waterfront atmosphere, this Halloween, Breakwater will begin serving Sunday brunch in place of their Sunday dinner service. While their menu will still include some fan favorites such as their Firecracker Shrimp, it will also be introducing some delectable treats such as Mini Churro Pancakes served with mouthwatering caramel sauce and a Breakfast Bowl that includes breakfast hash, rosemary breakfast potatoes and a choice of protein, topped with a fried egg and finished with green onion. If you, too, are in love with their NY Strip finished with herb garlic butter, you can now get it for brunch paired with two eggs and your choice of homefries, toast or biscuit. In addition to their hearty menu, also exceeding expectations is their refreshing bar selection. With a variety of beers on tap and fresh-squeezed cocktails, you’re sure to find the perfect pairing for a perfect brunch. And making this must-try (again and again) a triple threat? Live music on the deck overlooking the Pamlico Sound! View their full menu here and be sure to check out their Facebook page for their daily specials!

2. Wine Night at Pamlico Deli

Located in Frisco, Pamlico Deli will be continuing their Thursday night Wine Nights as they have been such a hit with the Hatteras Island locals and visitors alike! While they typically close for a couple of weeks in January and like everyone else, likely have some special holiday hours, Pamlico Deli is mostly open year-round and will continue their wine nights for as long as they’re open. The tastings usually last from 4 to around 8 pm, or whenever folks decide to go home, and cost $5 if you’re not a member. This fee, however, is waived should you choose to purchase a bottle. Reservations for that night’s dinner are recommended as the wines are paired to go with the meal and they usually sell out. Dinners range from $20-$26, but they also have a variety of desserts and charcuteries for snacking. Indoor and outdoor family-style seating is available, intentionally designed for meeting and mingling with new people. Exuding “supper club” vibes, this unique experience is topped off with live music by local artist Sam Smith, a self-taught and wildly talented saxophonist with a unique voice that pairs perfectly with a good glass of wine and delicious meal. The schedule looks a little something like this:

4:00 pm: Wine Tasting Begins
5:00 pm: Music
5:30 pm: Dinner

Another must-try, this weekly outing checks all of the boxes for a wonderful fall evening on Hatteras Island. Call (252) 995-3305 to make your reservation or visit their Facebook page for more information.

3. OBX-Wind Week

Scheduled for October 30th – November 6th, 2021, Hatteras Island will be hosting one of the biggest windsurfing events in the country with the annual OBX-Wind Competition. Held on multiple days during one of the prime local seasons for wind-based watersports, OBX-Wind Week will allow windsurfers of all skill levels to meet and mingle with their colleagues, have some fun on the water, and enjoy a race or two that is truly challenging, engaging, and exclusive to the Outer Banks. A huge raffle is the backbone of funding the event which means there are a lot of great prizes on the line. A $10 ticket (per ticket prices decrease should you decide to purchase in bulk) can win you anything from a 7-night trip to Pro Windsurf La Ventana to a board to a sail to various levels of swag! Even if windsurfing isn’t your jam, these races are a sight to behold so head to Ocean Air Sports located just behind our Avon office and check out this stellar event! Register here.
