If you think there is nothing to do this time of year on the Outer Banks, think again!  There are so many exciting upcoming events on The Outer Banks that you don’t want to miss out on!  February and March are full of family fun activities for all.  Get the family out and about, and enjoy educational programs, holiday events, healthy activities, great entertainment, great food, and so much more!

Outer Banks Sounds Music Showcase

Beginning on January 19, and running through April 19, WOVD the Sound and Dare County’s Art Council presents the Outer Banks Sound Music Show Case!  Every third Thursday Kelly’s Restaurant & Tavern will host live music from 7pm-9pm.  All musicians are local, and all have their own original music.  The Outer Banks is full of amazing talent, and the music showcase is something to be enjoyed by everyone!

Roanoke Island Freedom’s Colony 8th Annual Blues Jam

February 17, 2012, located in Manteo, come out and enjoy the 8th Annual Blues Jam!  This event is free and is open to the public.   Enjoy music by Ironing Board Sam, Big Ron Hunter and the Old Enough to Know Better Band.  Bring the family and relax and listen to some great music!

Cookin’ Outer Banks Style

Beginning February 24-26, in Waves on Hatteras Island, come and join the fun with this seafood based cooking instructional weekend!  Cookin’ Outer Banks Style will be hosted by Watermen’s Retreat and instructed by Outer Banks Epicurean, Amy Huggins.  This is a fun filled weekend, where you will have a chance to get hands on with different techniques and methods in preparing your locally caught seafood.  If you have ever had any doubt, or questions, now is the perfect for you to get expert advise from the Outer Banks Epicurean’s culinary team.  You will prepare delicious recipes, and taste what North Carolina seafood is all about!  Reservations are limited, so call today, (252) 987-6060.

Navigating the Stars

Join us on February 24, 2012 at the North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island for Navigating the Stars.  This will be a fun and educational event for the whole family!  You will start this journey out inside viewing the stars through a 68-inch diameter globe with projected images of the sun, stars, and planets.  Once night approaches you will then move outdoors to view the sights, and gather around a fire and listen to stories, while enjoying the delicious taste of roasted marshmallows.  Pre-registration is required by February 23 and space is limited.

OBX Taste of the Beach

OBX Taste of the Beach is an event you don’t want to miss!  From Thursday March 15-18, 2012, come and partake in a deliciously eventful weekend!  Enjoy a weekend of food, drinks, & fun on the Outer Banks, at the OBX Taste of the Beach 2012!  Check out the schedule of events on the Taste of the Beach website, and pick the events you would like to attend!  The event will feature wine tastings, food samplings, cooking how to’s, and so much more.  The OBX Grand Tasting will be on Sunday March 18, and will have over 30 area restaurants and beverage vendors serving food samples, and fine wines and beers from around the world.  Visit their website today to book your tickets!

Kelly’s 23rd Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade

Come out and see the largest St. Patrick’s Day Parade in North Carolina!  This is a great event for the whole family.  The parade is filled with floats, live music, marching bands, and creative marching, walking, and motorized units.  Traveling along the Virginia Dare Trail, MP 11.5-10.5 in Nags Head beginning at 1pm rain or shine, come and check out the St. Patrick’s Day Parade!
