We don’t want you to miss out on anything while you are here on vacation this summer! Memorial Day is right around the corner and this week will kick-off another great summer season here on Hatteras Island. With guests all about and warm weather, the events light up this time of year. Live music, family fun events, art classes, day trip events and so much more are waiting for you on the Outer Banks! If you will be here in May, be sure to check out these awesome events. ~May 14-18: Hatteras Village Offshore Open Fishing Tournament
Not fishing in the tournament, but would like to see what has been caught? Stop by the docks of Hatteras Village in the afternoons to see the catches of the Hatteras Village Offshore Open!! The fishing will take place on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
~May 16: Art Class at Studio 12 in Avon
Join Carolyn on Thursday May 16th, beginning at 10am for a glass fusion jewlery making class! The cost of the class is $26, and is open for ages 10 and up. Your choice of making a pendant or earrings, or you can also make rings and bracelets for a small extra cost. Call 252-995-7899 for more information or to register for the class.
~May 17-20: 41st Annual Hang Gliding Spectacular
Hosted by Kitty Hawk Kites, come out and join professional hang gliders, fans, and families at Jockey’s Ridge State Park for this Outer Banks tradition. This event is the longest running hang gliding competition in the world! The Hang Gliding Spectacular and Air Show is FREE TO THE PUBLIC FOR VIEWING with fun activities all day long. ~May 21 & 28: The Avon Luau
The Beach Klub in Avon will have a weekly Luau every Tuesday! The Avon Luau will feature live entertainment, traditional island food, drinks, and an open pool for the entire family to enjoy. So come out and enjoy the fun!
~May 22 & 29: Teen Night
On Wednesdays at The Beach Klub in Avon, there will be another weekly event, Teen Night! Teen Night will feature live DJ music, games, snacks, and more. So drop off the teens for a night of fun!

~May 27: 2nd Annual Shore Break 5K and the Tide Pool Fun Run
The 2nd Annual Shore Break 5K and the Tide Pool Fun Run will be on May 27, 2013 at the Beach Klub in Avon! The 5K will begin at 8am and the Tide Pool Fun Run will immediately follow the 5K at 9am on the beach. The 5K will take you through Kinnakeet Shores on gorgeous Cape Hatteras! This race terrain will keep you entertained the entire 3.1 miles, from paved roads through winding beautiful Kinnakeet Shores to wooden bridges, boardwalks, beach walkways, a few steps up and over the dunes and finally finishing with an unbelievable view of the Atlantic Ocean as the final stretch takes you to the beach. Run, jog or walk, all are welcome!
All proceeds from this event will go toward the Hatteras Island Youth Education Fund and the OBX GO FAR (Go out for a Run) Children’s Health and Nutrition Program. So come out and join us for a great cause!! Click to register for the 2nd Annual Shore Break 5K and Tide Pool Fun Run.
~May 30: Photography Class at Studio 12
If you love photography, this event is for you! Come out to Studio 12 in Avon on Thursday May 30th, beginning at 7:30pm, for a photography class with Betty Horan. This class is for ages 12 and up and the cost per person is $18. Come and learn new tips and tricks for photographing the beach!
~May 31: ROCK THE CAPE!
On Friday May 31, come out and join us for a great day filled with art and live music from 2-10pm! Rock The Cape will be a kick-off-to-summer festival to benefit the Dare County Arts Council program outreach on Cape Hatteras and the Community Music School. The fundraiser will celebrate life on the water’s edge and will feature local music, artists, food, drinks, a kids’ zone, and more. Featuring live music by Southern Culture on the Skids, Formula, Waterhigh, Ruth Wyand Trio, and the Community Music School! The Dare County Arts Council is hoping to continue the festival each year making this an annual event. Come out to the Beach Klub in Avon, and enjoy an evening of great fun!
Tickets are $12 in advance and $18 at the door. Tickets will be available at Koru Village in Avon, Dare County Arts Council’s Gallery in Manteo, and Cloud Nine in Nags Head in April. Tickets are now available online at brownpapertickets.com.
