We may not have a Walmart or any other chain super-stores, but Hatteras Island does boast several unique shops, both locally owned and exclusive to this area, which you can find treasures outside of the box-store norm. One of our favorite Hatteras Village specialty boutiques is Family Jewels, located at the Stowe on 12 shopping center on the northern end of town.
Just as fun and witty as the name, is the store’s founder and owner, Wendy Stowe Sisler. Native to Hatteras Island, she has the laid-back islander attitude, but the articulate eye of an artist. Dressing locals and visitors alike in the most distinct of jewels for nearly 15 years, her specialty is lampwork jewelry, which she creates right in her store. It is then and there she creates some of the most beautiful and original pieces, perfect for gifts to others…or yourself!
Her pup, Sport, frequents the boutique, giving it even more of that unruffled charm that shop-goers have come to expect and love. It’s not your typical gallery or jewelry store, so if you come to the island, don’t miss out on all of the fun at Family Jewels! You definitely won’t regret it!
