While Avon is quietly nestled between significant stretches of untouched seashore, it is also a well-known hot spot, jamming with Hatteras Island hustle and bustle.
9:00am: Start in the heart of the village at Uglie Mugs Coffee House on Route 12. Enjoy some delicious baked goods while sipping on a great cup of coffee at this locally-owned island gem while perusing their selection of goodies in the bead shop!
9:30am: You’re on an island, so take the morning to explore the water! Choose one of these options depending on your mood, resources and environment:
1. Have 4-wheel drive? Head to either Ramp 38 (the south end of Avon) or Ramp 34 (the north end of Avon) and drive the family out for a day of fun in the sun!
2. No 4-wheel drive? Head to the Avon Fishing Pier for a public beach access. Utilize the pier for a day of fishing or head below and enjoy a day on the beach.
3. Feeling adventurous? Stop by Hatteras Island Boardsports and take a surfing lesson or drop by Ocean Atlantic Rentals and grab some goodies for your day at the beach.
4. Too windy for a beach day? Stop by Ride Hatteras or Ocean Air Sports and learn to wind surf! You can also stop by one of the various rental locations and grab some equipment for a fun day on the Pamlico. Many rentals shops have access locations on the grounds or you can head to Canadian Hole for convenient parking and out houses.
12:30pm: Tummies are probably starting to talk after a morning in the sun. Drop by Haoles Sushi and Sake Bar and try one of these creative rolls that are both Instagram-worthy and mouth-watering-good! Not feeling the sushi scene? Try one of Avon’s many other restaurant options. Check out the “Hatteras Restaurants” page under the Explore Hatteras tab or ask a local!
1:30pm: Get your shop on! Spend the afternoon touring the village shops and art galleries. On the tour? Jewels by the Sea, Fisherman’s Daughter, Kinnakeet Clay, Country Elegance, Hatteras Island Boardsports, Kitty Hawk Kites, Mill Creek Gifts and MORE! Create your own tour using our Hatteras Island Shopping page.
4:30pm: Drop by Wonderberry for some fro-yo or head over to Dairy Queen for an American favorite! Afterwards head back to your Hatteras Island castle and wash-up for a night in Kinnakeet.
6:00pm: Stop by The Mad Crabber and get your fill of this classic crab house!
7:00pm: Avon has a great night life, so do a little research and find the event that’s best for you! Between Tuesday night luaus and various concerts at the Beach Klub, music nights at Froggy Dog and Mad Crabber and much, much more, there is plenty to get into in the village of Avon!
