03/01/2018

One good thing about warm weather and wide open spaces, is there are plenty of ways to utilize it. On Hatteras Island you have long stretches of clean beaches and plenty of beautiful, blue water to go along with it, so what better place to come to engage in some wellness activities that you’ll actually enjoy? And the scenery? Well, that’s just an added bonus! Come celebrate your health with a wellness vacation on Hatteras Island. Here are some ways to do just that!

Be Well on Hatteras Island

Yoga/Fitness Classes

In addition to the quickly growing Hatteras Yoga in Frisco, there is an array of fitness class options around the island. Spa Koru in Avon has a full schedule in addition to their spa amenities such as facials, massages and so on. The Fort in Frisco and Fessenden Center in Buxton also offer a variety of classes for various age groups and intensity levels.

Water Sports

Water sports are the perfect way to have fun while getting in a full-body workout. If you’re not a water sports enthusiast with your own gear, fear not, many of the island’s surf shops have surfboard rentals and connections to someone who provides surf lessons for the daring beginner. Companies such as Kitty Hawk Kites with locations in Rodanthe, Avon and Hatteras, offer kayak and paddleboard rentals and various companies along the island also offer jet-ski rentals among other things.

Free-Style Beach Aerobics

Already have a fitness routine that you don’t want to break? Take it to the beach! Go for a walk, a run, a swim, try some meditating, do some aerobics, yoga stretches and so on! With so much space the possibilities are endless. And the perks? It’s also FREE…and very, very pretty…and you can go for a swim when you get sweaty…and there are no mirrors (that may only apply to the uncoordinated such as myself, but for some of us, that’s good news!).

Take to the Bike Path

The Outer Banks Scenic Byway has sponsored a bike path through several of our island villages, providing a safe and comfortable way for the cyclist to enjoy Highway 12 without having to battle with traffic. Perfect an island ride or a family stroll!
